Attainable!!! From my understanding, isn't Japan government willing to foot half of the bill for this infrastructure?!

Some folks in this region are so regressive and backwards in their thought process, they can't envision anything better for themselves and the overall area.

I believe they are looking at building new stations. They would almost have to, given that maglev is not compatible with existing tracks.

THis project has now got some legs. Construction could start in 2019 if all the requirements are met. Of course, there's the NIMBY factor. I've read where residents in Anne Arundel and Bowie oppose it. THat makes sense because the ROW goes right through their communities.

Something tells me this is going to get built. The only question is when.

2019 is just when initial environmental and route feasibility studies are projected to be completed. Construction wouldn't start until waaaaaay after that.

Do they have a clear right of way to build on yet?
Will they ever have one that actually allows getting INTO either city?

Define, "wayyyyyyyyy."

Don't shoot the messenger. Now, whether it will happen or not is still the big question. We all know what happened to the Purple Line. If NIMBYs can sink their teeth into it, it could be 2021 before it starts. But 2019 has been reported by many outlets. If you ask me, bug projects like this get delayed all the time. I'd say 2021. It also depends on if Hogan gets re-elected. If Baker wins, he already said he's going to resurrect the Red Line in Baltimore. That tells me the Maglev will get shelved.

Maglev project planners hope to have an approved route by mid 2019.

“After that we’ll be good to go, as long as we have financing, we’ll start the design and construction later that year,” Henley said.

I guess the goal is to get to NY in an hour. Is it clear the initial funding still coming from the Japanese?

I'll go with 2035. That might be too optimistic, though. Could be 2065.

Yes, in the form of a loan.

$5B of it, yeah. Project cost for DC-Baltimore leg is expected to come in between $10-15B, though.
