The land was re-zoned from residential into light industrial so the county could move the buildings there.
Add Old Town Kensington to the list.

Huh? Route 29 is crazy, and there is MORE to come. Harris Teeter is coming to 29/Randolph road. There is a biotech/science center coming along with NSWC becoming FDA Campus in White Oak. Traffice on 29 is insane at rush hour....All of Montgomery County, MD is hot stuff now....no exceptions

Why do people think that only Montgomery County residents use Rt. 29? People in three counties use Rt. 29. Not just those in Montgomery County. People in Howard, Anne Arundel, and Prince George's County use Rt. 29 to avoid I-95. That's why Rt. 29 is crazy.

All of Montgomery County isn't hot. If you visit an east county planning meeting, you'll hear the same sentiments that people in Prince George's County have. resident is east county feel they lack the jobs and amenities west county has. East Montgomery county has lagged the western half for decades. A Harris Teeter and a new hospital won't change that. The Life Science village is a good 5 - 10 years away. And even that project won't satisfy the needs of those residents.

Hmmmmm.

The land-use plan called for mass transit — either light rail or express buses — to support the new development. But that never happened. Traffic on Route 29 worsened as the volume of commuters from booming Howard County grew, prompting a development moratorium that started in 1986 and was supposed to last until transportation options improved.
Affluent Montgomery County has pockets of poverty, mostly in the east - The Washington Post

Knew I wasn't crazy.

That's not what he said. He said the County has a history of waiving its own rules. Which is absolutely true. My wife and I, at one point, sought to build a 5,000 sq/ft home on a 1.6 acre parcel of land near Burtonsville. The zoning was such that we, technically, could not build the house because as an agriculturally zoned area, the land needed to be a minimum of 5 acres for each house. We consulted with the County and for a $36,000 check, we could have gotten the property and built the house with less than 5 acres. Why? Because of a waiver they were willing to offer up.

We ultimately reneged on the idea of building in the Burtonsville area and instead built in Howard County. We are beyond happy to not be living in MoCo. But, it could have been arranged if we wanted it. And that's the point the poster was trying to make.

Perhaps if intellectual dishonesty and fundamental disingenousness didn't cloud your worldview, you might actually have understood where he was coming from. Right?

Exactly.

I mean it is not as if MoCo was the first place to waive its own rules.

Well with the FDA campus and the police precinct, Adventist Hospital (coming to area), White Oak and surrounding, I gather the building will begin. I am sure property costs etc. will increase as a result
