I am coming all the way from Wyoming. I'm taking a group of 44 students/parents. Thank goodness the tour company has handled the Inauguration tour for many years.
Yeah, you may actually end up having a big advantage over the locals. The tour company has likely got it figured how to get you where you need to go and back using some sort of bus. Us DCists, MDers, and NoVans are pretty much going to have to walk for it, it looks like.
VRE folks note if you haven't already that a regular pass won't be good on Jan 20. You have to get special tickets for the day. Details on the VRE website tomorrow (Dec 16). Also, VRE trains won't stop at Springfield, Alexandria, or Crystal City.
I am not looking forward to the crowds, but this is something I can't pass up. I live in the city and this is what.. 4-6 miles from my house? How could I NOT go...
That's what I keep telling my roommate every time she gives me that "you're crazy, I'm getting the h*** out" look. Of course, this is after she wouldn't let me rent out our townhouse because she said she had to work...
I'd like to go but that doesn't mean I'll get in.... yet to hear about Norton or Fenty or anyone else passing tickets out to DC residents who've requested them (like me).
I am coming in fr4om Dallas. Stayingf wi8th my Aunt in Fort Washington. We will take the Metro i nand just wing it. I just bought some warm clothes and being from Chicago I am sure that I can handle the cold.
The closer it comes to the inauguration, the more I want to be there- if just to be in the vibe. I want to take my kids 12 and 15. To me it's the difference of having a flavor described or actually tasting it.
Am I crazy to think we can do this? I know that there is no lodging to be found, but that's what rest stops are for We drive to the vicinity, find a train station, go into DC and then return and crash in the car at a rest stop, have toothbrush will travel.
Is this doable? Haven't been to DC in.......let's just say a long time.
I feel that it will be an adventure that we can share and an experience that they (and I) will remember forever. What's the worst that can happen? What am I missing?

Err, that actually sounds like relatively dangerous behavior. What do your kids say about the prospect of sleeping in the car with you at a rest stop?
You should think more about how the whole day will go and what you'll get out of it. I doubt it will be nearly as simple as you seem to think.
Well, if we can work out this situation, me and sis will go. She got 2 tickets thanks to Senator Inhofe's office. (R-Oklahoma) She was lucky enough to reserve a room, how I don't know, however, it's in Fredericksburg, VA. Uh, lol, she thinks she has it all worked out. We shall see. We will be driving into VA and catching Metro I guess...lol. BTW we're coming from Oklahoma.
