Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows a lot about border patrols. I am getting married in Lynden, WA and I have friends coming over from the Vancouver area, in British Columbia, Canada and I am scared they won't let them through. They'll have some equipment in their car like instruments. We're not paying them in the US so it wouldn't be considered work, so it will be considered a gift I guess. I just hope the fact that they are "performing" in the states doesn't make the border guys mad? Anyone know anything? Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, you are allowed to bring musical instruments into the US for personal use. So as long as they're not going to be sold in the US, or that they're not being used in a paid performance in the US, and as long as you don't shout " Death to America" at the border guards, it shouldn't be a problem.

no border patrol issues for bands, but the crossing should be well documented (an inventory list of equipment + copies of the following will help).
  • a wedding announcement (with location NEAR crossing)
  • a written agreement that they are coming to play for free (by you and signed by them)

Plan an extra hour, (and have all documents in place) but hopefully not delayed. Iif they get through the border early they can stop and have some pre-wedding treats at Edaleen Dairy Products - Lynden, WA. This will work for a Polka band, but not an opera singer or Chamber vocal group.

Is it a Polka Band ??? That would be great...

FYI: I just attended the 30th anniversary album release of a quartet we started at my wedding. Best wishes.
