"Affordable" is a relative term. What is affordable for one, might not be so for another. If you want any kind of meaningful guidance, you would need to post how much you can spend to buy or rent.

Are you bringing your jobs with you? Or will you be looking for jobs? And if so, in what industry or field? The Seattle area really isn't affordable for many people. It depends on your circumstances.

And by the way, why did you title your thread "Everette"?

[quote=Crystal mendez;65836128]Hi there
my partner and I want to move to Everett Washington and work in seattle. I would need to find a new job but my partner will transfer his job over to the area. We want to buy a house but would probably rent at first. What are housing costs in Everett ? How’s the job market? I currently manage an oyster bar and have been for 6 years so I have retail and food service experience. We could probably manage a $2000/month for rent. We want to find a place an hour or less away from Seattle to live and we would commute for work but we’re not sure which area would be best. He’s been to Everett and loved it but we’re open to any area

I’m a fan of Historic North Everett. Check out the pedestrian bridge from Grand Ave Park to the Everett Marina.

The local co-op has food prep/service jobs from time to time. If you've managed a kitchen yourself, including doing all the ordering as well as managing staff, you could apply for a job as a "lead" in the kitchen/deli, or assistant to the lead, or kitchen manager. Those pay about $20-$28/hr. or so. Pretty good benefits. Many locations around north Seattle and the northern suburbs. I'm not sure why you'd want to commute to Seattle if you didn't have to; the traffic is bad. You should be able to find a job in your field in, or near, Everett: Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Bothell. Your partner could take public transit to the Seattle job.

You can get an idea of housing costs on Craigslist for Everett. You can also look at property management companies for rentals, like Zillow, MacPherson's, etc. You can also look up real estate listings to get an idea of property values for buying. https://macphersonspm.com/

For that matter, since you guys are interested in Everett, you should take a look at Edmonds, too. Very charming. On the water, has ferry service to across Puget Sound. Parks, beaches (such as they are in the northwest: not the typical sandy beaches of CA or the east coast).

Here's the co-op jobs page. These listings are for Edmonds and vicinity, south of Everett, north of Seattle. There's a kitchen manager job open at the moment (among other listings). https://www.google.com/search?client...state=tldetail

On average, in 2020 Snohomish county has the second highest average home valuation in the state. But it's still significantly lower than in King county, by about 25%.

Everett has good areas and bad areas. Do not consider renting an apartment on W Casino road, for example, or near Highway 99. Everett is the least expensive city in the county, but the commute to Seattle is brutal. I would suggest checking the traffic reports and cameras at your future commute time. At the posted speed limit it should take about 32 minutes. We made that trip midday Friday in 40 minutes, but the average at commute times is 54 minutes, but can take as long as 90. I would suggest looking in Shoreline, Lynwood, or Edmonds.
