I was coming to this board to state my opinion about Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon being one of the whitest places I have ever lived. Yet Mount Vernon is riddled with crime and racism. Nastiest place I have ever lived. And I lived on Aurora avenue near shoreline for six months.

Racism? Hhm.....
well Glenn Beck is from there. No wonder.

The only towns in Washington that could be considered digusting, or bad by Washington standards, which would probably be average using older rust belt town standards, are Aberdeen, Longview/Kelso and maybe Yakima. Other than that, nothing really looks bad, just by physical apperance alone, IMO.

Mt. Vernon one of the whitest places?? My parents have a vacation place up north and alot of my friends live up there. Hope no one takes offense to this but we used to refer to Mt. Vernon as "little mexico" Any where there is lots of agriculture in WA you will find large Hispanic communities

Hopefully it doesn't get too hot there in the summer like in the 90's?

If it gets over 90 in blane during the summer its prob only going to be for a week tops. The only places in WA that get above 90 with any type of regularity or for any extended time are on the other side of the mountains in eastern WA

But in comparison to Custer, Blaine and Birch Bay have alot more people there? Crowded with traffic? Have to wait in lines?

At a couple of 4 way stops on Portal Way and on the Birch Bay Waterfront in the summer, yes, other than that, no.

This sounds like an area to check out especially if it is not far from Custer. I have a feeling it may cost more to buy a home in Birch Bay or the other place mentioned since Custer is so rural and low population.

It's all about your own perceptions, I see some think the Tri-cites are among the best, not for me. I was born in Berkeley, Ca, I love the Bay area, but Ca does have it share of problems, and more so then ever since they elected Arnold. No different then many other cities. You couldn't pay me to live in LA Some might think that a place that whites are not the majority are "ghetto" I find them some of the most colorful and diverse places to live. Cities and towns that don't have them are not worth living or visiting (for me) unless there is family there. I'm sure they have value to those that live there, some like that kind of life, so they can have it.I couldn't live some place that didn't have events like Northwest Folk Life, and Bumbershoot!

I wouldn't want to live on LA or southern CA. I like rain and don't like the heat or too much sun. San Francisco has fog which I'm used to. Berkely was known as a radical town. Very crowded there and no parking. California has gone way down hill. Again crowded and too much traffic and anywhere you go you have to wait in long lines.
