Roughly 2 weeks ago, it seems like Autumn was here to stay in the Northeastern USA consistently until Late October and that summer was going to be over for at least 7 months until at least next mid April 2012.
However, after about 5 Autumn like days summer came back but in a pretty weird and unexpected way. The past 11 days in a row have been much warmer than those 5 Autumn like days 2 weeks ago but with this warmer weather came endless cloudy weather.
Here in New York City, it was cloudy the past 11 days in a row with an almost never ending feel of cloudy weather and temperatures mostly in the 70s for the high and low temperature.
And now weather forecasts show New York City might have an extra 10 more cloudy days in a row which means maybe up to 21 cloudy days in a row total.
Starting tomorrow, looks like colder Autumn weather will come back but the cloudy weather will continue.
I assume most of the Northeastern USA had similar weather conditions as NYC for the most part during the past 2 weeks as well.
One place in Hertfordshire in August 1936 went from 1.1C at dawn to 24.9C in 9 hours, which is the official largest daily temperature range in England.
For me, on one day in March 2003, -4.2C was recorded, but rose to 12.6C. In the same month, -0.7C was recorded at dawn but rose to 16.4C.
And of course, more recently, 11C at dawn to 28C in the afternoon, a 17 degree rise.
At the bottom of a valley. Those kinds of temperatures are not uncommon in August in the UK in certain locations, especially in valleys where the cold air collects.
It's official, guys, today was the hottest October day on record in the UK at 29.5C / 85.1F and is still rising.
The October record in Wales also went today and many many more local records.
Wow that's amazing. 85 F in October is hot here, let alone in the UK. Our record is 89 F. In October 2007 we had a stretch of temperatures in the 80s, one day reaching 88 F.
29.9c at Gravesend now.. 0.1 degrees more and 30c / 86f for October officially!
Unless one of the sites which gives its figures late got 30 it looks like 29.9C is the new record - unless it's broken tomorrow of course, which is possible... 85.8 degrees F in a place next to the sea at 63F or so and when the sun only gets to around 35 degrees elevation... It was a surreal sight to see people sunbathing on parched grass amid fallen leaves around 4.30pm or so, knowing that in only a month's time at that time of day the sun will literally be below the horizon. Some places in the country actually had their warmest day of the year today - absolutely astonishing! I'm glad we've had our two heatwaves in April and Sept/Oct this year as I've actually been able to enjoy them, whereas putting up with high 90s F in midsummer in a city mostly without A/C would have been unbearable.

Looks like this exceeds the previous monthly record by half a degree celcius. Very unusual indeed.
