Simple blocking with cool moist air being dragged onshore. Not very common to persist in October, but far from unheard of. On the other hand, in October 1988 persistent dry W/NW flows gave the same area mean daily maxima equivalent to midsummer.
There has been some browning and falling leaves, but generally it seems behind this year. Most of the trees in my yard are still green with only some minor changes.
Beautiful weather lately with crystal clear blue skies, cool nights, and pleasant days (60s). This weekend is expected to be in the 80s.
October is still fairly mild though, no frost in the forecast at all, which is unusual because I should be getting my first ground first in early October than air frost later in the month.. not happy at all.

You want to see plants die?
We just got a frost. Predicted to reach 29°C Sunday.
The plants will die in the winter and grow back again in Spring like always, happens every year I'm afraid.
Well, yes, but I always like them to last longer if possible. At least we'll get colorful leaves soon.
I remember a goofy December where there were still flowers blooming around Christmas time. Roses lasted till the middle of December. (Was in Long Island not in New England)
