Winter is really starting here in the South. Had a glaze of ice yesterday and I just woke up to an Ice Storm Warning this morning. I'm supposed to get somewhere around 1/4"-1/2" of ice. I live in the Memphis metro and the afternoon commute is going to be a MESS! On top of that, we're not supposed to go above freezing for the 2nd day in a row.
Seems like any time without snow on the ground isn't happening this January.
In other words, this January actually looks like a January .

Cool. Keep those reports coming in. To Cloudcrash and his southern brethren, although freezing rain is vastly inferior to a good blanket of snow, I hope you get some pretty-looking glaze out of this ice storm, and I also hope that you can gaze at the glaze with the lights still on .
To everyone else, today marks the halfway point of meteorological winter. If you're in between storms or (tragically) still have not had a storm, today is a good time to reflect on how the winter is progressing and what may occur in the second half.
Nice snowfall in Stockholm today, looks like a fair amount, they probably have close to a foot now, maybe more. Still coming down hard according to the webcams. Ah, proper winters..

Well, if it's going to be cold enough for snow on the ground, I'd hope we'd get some decent sized snow storms instead a few minor snowfalls combined with daily means just below freezing insufficient to melt snow.
I'd like to get some winter hiking done. If not, mild enough for pleasant biking (preferably with snow melted off the bike paths). Except for last winter, the bike paths typically melt out completely somwhere between early to mid March.
It's cold here, -1c - with snow on the ground, but not exceptionally cold.
Still, I look forward to warmer and drier weather.
