NWS Upton discussion. Good stuff in here.

THE BERMUDA HIGH CONTINUES TO PUMP ABUNDANT MOISTURE NORTH FROM
THE GULF OF MEXICO ALONG THE EAST COAST.

STRONG SUBTROPICAL HIGH REMAINS ANCHORED OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST
FOR THE DURATION OF THE PERIOD...CONTINUING A WARM AND MUGGY PATTERN
INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. 850 MB TEMPS WILL RANGE FROM 16C TO
18C...RESULTING IN MAX TEMPS GENERALLY IN THE LOW TO MID 80S THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. BY THURSDAY...THE HIGH SINKS A BIT...RESULTING IN
SOUTHERLY FLOW TURNING A BIT MORE WESTERLY...ALLOWING TEMPS TO WARM
UP INTO THE MID/UPPER 80S WITH HIGHS NEAR 90 IN/AROUND NYC AND
URBANIZED PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NJ THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

DIURNALLY DRIVEN CONVECTION IS POSSIBLE EACH DAY...MAINLY OVER THE
WESTERN HALF OF THE CWA AS SEVERAL WEAK SHORTWAVES APPROACH THE
REGION. STORMS...HOWEVER...WILL BE SCATTERED AS DYNAMICS ARE WEAK
AND THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT TRIGGERING MECHANISM FOR A WIDESPREAD
OUTBREAK.

Minimum temperature of the day was at 1 pm (71°F), just after a rainstorm. Maximum temperature of the day was at 11 am (77°F), just before. 75°F now, 72°F at sunrise.

The first six months of 2013 will go down in the record books as the wettest January to June period ever. 28.46" of precipitation has fallen through the first half of the year breaking the old record of 26.19" in 1975. We are now running nearly a foot above average for year to date precipitation. It was a different story last year as we found ourselves in the middle of a drought at this point. We have already seen more precipitation this year than we saw all of 2012. 26.91" of precipitation fell during 2012 or 1.55" less than has fallen in the first six months of 2013.

No wonder it's been so cool this year...

I think summer might try to comeback in a few days

Possible Heatwave on the way as high pressure builds later this week...

''Normally when looking ahead to the coming weekend on Monday I’m cautious about the prospects because 5 or 6 days often gives more than enough time for the weather prospects to change. However, today I’m pretty confident that most of the country will be enjoying plenty of warm sunshine on Saturday and Sunday. The latest GFS 6z run shows a large area of high pressure well established over Britain by the weekend and there’s scope for the pattern to be pushed around in subsequent computer model runs by a few hundred miles and for most of the country to remain under fine weather regardless. In other words the global computer models can be quite a long way off in their predictions and we’re still likely to be enjoying the sun! Max temperatures? I’d not be surprised to see 30C (86F) recorded.''
