Total 2.57" Stopped before I woke up, sometime between 6-7 am. Sun is coming out!
2.48" from Amherst. I assume I got something similar to either. This storm was a long duration, moderation intensity so I guess it'd have less regional variation in a short distance?

How long a period was the rain over. Why was it called a storm - winds?
There's been about the same amount of rain here in about 16 hours, with moderate wind, but not a storm, but any stretch.
A sunny but cooler than average start to summer here. No rain so far yet although there could be showers this week. Temperature mean is currently -0.9°C below average continuing the trend of cooler than average this year.
Got a nice thunderstorm last night. 39.4 mm / 1.55" at Orly airport and up to 2 inches in the southern suburbs. Though only 4.4 mm / 0.17" at Paris-Montsouris, 10 km north of Orly.
It think of storms as having strong wind, with lashing rain, and there needs to be trees toppled etc. They usually start quite suddenly.
Heavy rain without wind, is just heavy rain.
A "storm" is a Low pressure system no matter what it brings. This one that just past in particular was a Tropical Storm that lost its tropical characteristics after North Carolina. It was a storm that went as low as 998mb and the minimum spot was detected by Hurricane hunters of 992mb. Winds were above 40mph in some areas (Tropical Storm strength), couple trees and branches did fall in spots and rain totals were above 4" in many areas. Flooding highways, streets & some river areas.
But even if the rains were just 1" and no winds, it would still be a "storm". A Weak one... but still a Low Pressure system. Sometimes I call it an "event"...or a "system".. but a storm can be used as well.
NYC has been above 80°F only 7 times this year to date, but last year only 7 times as well to June 15th.
Philadelphia hit 80°F 13 times this year, 19 times last year
Baltimore went above 80°F 26 times last year to June 15th, this year 14 times
Bridgeport CT only 5 times this year, 4 times last year.
Northern CT 10 times this year, 13 times last year
For me, I thought seeing Bridgeport with only 5 times this year is nothing, but then realized only 4 times last year?
