I can't express how disgusting it is to wake up in the 70s here with a dew point of 69.
This is the time of year when the climates of the Caribbean seem to join the climates on the East Coast and become one hot, tropical, sultury, climate - lol.
I'm waiting and waiting to see the "tounge" like this shown in fantasy land on the GFS.
The "tounge" is basically a piece of the polar vortex that broke off. With a negative NAO(blocking) the only place for it to go is to bleed down into Eastern U.S.
While this shows single digit 5000' level (850mb)(Celcius) it only translates to nighttime 50s in summer time at the surface.
But because its for 2 weeks from now, just ignore it. I just wanted to show you what I'm waiting to see on the models.
The heat does seem to be wearing everyone down here in the the Tri-State/Middle Atlantic. Right now most NWS stations in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, and NYC/Long Island have temps in the 88- 93 F range, dew points in the upper 60’s to low 70’s F, and heat index values near 100 F. My current temp here (near New Haven, Connecticut) is 90 F, the dew point is 74 F, and the heat index 99 F. The sun out here feels like you’re on the equator - lol.
...and there looks to be little relief in the short term: That upper level trough over the east is now breaking down – this means in the coming days/week, the heat will expand eastward toward the East Coast. Part of the reason for this trough breaking down is the strengthening Bermuda High. So this will be the pressure pattern heading into this weekend/next week:
In the short term...from Florida to Maine, west to the Great Plains...it’s more of the same folks – old fashioned 1930’s H-H-H summer weather. The iced tea and lemonade will be swirling this weekend. Stay cool.
I took a hike on the Appalachian Trail (1,050 feet, 3.6 miles round trip) today and I was dripping in sweat. When I reached the top that overlooked New Jersey and New York, you could see the thick haze and humidity in the air. Hadn't ever done this part of the trail before, but the view was beautiful. Next time I'll have to go on a cooler and clearer day.
