In Chicago's case MDW is much more representing of the city itself then is ORD. Look at a map and you will see that ORD is only connected to the city of Chicago's borders by a single street... and for me I live 35 miles south of MDW why wouldn't I use an official NWS station closer to my home if it better represents local conditions?
I couldn't agree more! I hate the way Miami's official temps are compiled and virtually the whole city is much cooler. However for this thread and threads like it I believe that official temps should be used to avoid cherry-picking and confusion.

That's fair enough. Officially London has not reached 80F/27C. Though an official UK Met station closer to the center of London has.

Kew is not close to the centre of London, it's in zone 4 and has lower mins than everywhere else.

Yes, yes it did.

Just because some websites may use Heathrow data for "London" it doesn't mean that is the only station that should be used, when there are several official Met Office weather stations in London, including Kew Gardens...

I'm not sure why you are being so pedantic about this...

Kew Gardens IS an official Met Office weather station & it IS in London, what is so confusing about that??
The thread wasn't titled "When will Heathrow Airport hit 27C"...

Ok. I looked at a map it was about 8 miles east of Heathrow, so I assumed it was closer to the center of London

It is closer, I thought you said originally that it was close to the centre, which it isn't.

I've been there, it felt obviously in the city and not outlying. Not really city center, but still rather urban. Is there any official station closer? Is Greenwich closer? Somehow Greenwich felt further out to me and a bit more separate from London.
