He is wrong about the grass growing all year though, lets be honest... My dad doesn't use the lawnmower from October to April.

The grass certainly stops growing in winter, and it's browning here as well, but it's not that unusual.

You can see browning/yellowing on this picture:

The grass is greener in winter, but in winter 2012/2013 by April the grass was kind of brown and dead looking, but that was unusually long, and the coldest January-March period for some time.

I disagree that it is because we have a longer growing season.. our grass hardly grows, if at all from November-February. The simple matter is that if we get long spells of dry weather then it will brown up after a few weeks.. 12mm in 50 days is Mediterranean-esque, what would you expect? Not trying to say we are Mediterranean at all as we aren't.. but we do actually get only 40mm rain in each summer month.. and this can be much less. Certainly from 2007-2012 our grass would not have looked like this.

I actually like the brown grass look. makes it feel like summer.. I associate brown grass with good summers.

I find that funny, because in South Carolina it's the exact opposite. Summer has bright green grass and winter has brown grass. I like the brown grass look too, but because it feels like winter, at least to me

Comparison Pic.. Today vs just 4 months ago. July 2, 2015 vs March 5, 2015.

I'm ready for that on the right again. Hopefully it starts in 4 or 5 more months! Shoot, let it start tomorrow. lol

You don't have cold season grass.

So active growth throughout the year does not make the grass more susceptible to drought.
I dont think ours usually goes brown with the same amount of rain. Different type of grass. No growth for nearly half the year, obviously. Even if it stays green in say, November, its not growing.

There's a big mixture of grasses here. Many grasses are selected that will grow throughout autumn, winter and spring, and the die back in summer is considered less of an issue.

Summer grasses like you would have there, are also very common, and farms would have a percentage of pasture growing them. They also grow year round, but are less suitable as stock food during the cooler months.
