Who knows what will happen. Our forecast for Tuesday was downgraded from 87 to 84. I don't even think it will reach 84. Tomorrow could be the first 80F of the year... or not.

Only 20 Mays in the last 71 years haven't reached 80F here. The most recent ones are 2010 and 2011. The average date of 1st 80F since 1945 is May 21 and average day of last 80F is Sep 13. Average number of 80F in a calendar year is 30 (if we use the 1986-2017 averages).

a run of bad summers wouldn't make good ones any more likely .

Ours seems to be 4 May, but we have come close in April with a high of 26.1C in 2003.

Of course, data for here only goes back to the mid-1980s.

Are those Wiki stats for Leeds a fair representation? They're awful, even though I do like the winter lows.

No, those figures are for Bingley SAMOS. That weather station is not only incredibly unrepresentative of Leeds due to being significantly higher in elevation, isn't even representative of the town of Bingley itself.

I have no idea why they're using those figures on the Leeds wiki. The Church Fenton figures would be much closer to reality - though add a degree or two to the average lows.

For comparison's sake, the old Leeds Weather Centre was 44m asl, while Bingley SAMOS is 260m asl, and Bingley itself is 89m asl.

WO has a high of 28C for London next Sunday. So May 28th is likely when 80F will be breeched.
