We had a diurnal range of 20C in July 2013 - one day went from 9C to 29C.

That's just plain crazy for this oceanic climate.

It's very common in the interior valleys of Portugal to have 25ºC plus diurnal amplitudes during summer, sometimes even 30ºC is possible, 10/11ºC to 40/41ºC, it has happened this year.
Quite rare by the coast though.

Our nights are simply too short to create such diurnal ranges in summer.

Tallahassee on November 12, 2011 had a diurnal range of 27 C. From -6 C in the morning to 21 C in the afternoon.

I used to live in this area back in 2007. Peachtree City, GA had a low of 4 C (39 F) and a high of 28 C (82 F) on the same day. Next day the low was 7 C and the high was 31 C.
