But for some poeple having the cash to pay up front is not always an option, especially if one has to go to a specialist for a problem. Now if the visit was,say no more then $40 or $50 up front, that might be an option for many (yes,I'm living in dream land).

Default "Poor Whites"

Here is an article that was in the Miami Herald about why "poor whites" in WV didn't vote for Obama: Poor whites are being conned - 05/26/2008 - MiamiHerald.com (broken link) Not trying to "flame", just inform.

No a copay and not the amount covered by one's insurance plan. What happened now- say, doctor's fee is $175 for a follow up visit; insurance will pay him from 80 to 150 depends on plan and company. If you want to pay cash he'll charge you 90-110- it will be lower than the official charge but still within insurance reimbursement range. In places like California where fee-for-service is very frequent practice one would pay $175 to a doctor, then file a claim, get $150 back. Basically-you just pay 425 co-pay like with other plans. Doctor would get rid of tons of paperwork, pre-authorizations and extra staff to do paperwork. it would be win-win if a patient always has spare $175 and can wait for reimbursement.
Old school doctoring was $25 when I was a teen, and the reason why new drs were going back to that old system (about 5yrs ago) was because the amount of $ expertise required from office staff; volumes of paper, pre negotiated rates getting squeezed more and chasing after insurance for repays, then more denials over a typo... blah blah. These new country dr types were charging something along the line of $50-$70 for no grief and no insurance dictating medical care. Specialists & pricey equipment become a whole other animal, though. Pray you never see a hospital or beware the $300 asprin.
Ironic part is- if not for medical insurance squeezing drs so hard, there probably wouldnt be as much cause for high medical malpractice insurance because they'd simply do their job, not forced to be expert lawyer/business mgr/pill broker/whatnot. Ancillary industries like drug companies, medical equip, insurance industry, administrators, frivilous litigation, etc have made primary medical industry very ill, like a nasty case of chiggers. When doc is sick, he can't help you anymore.

That might be one of the most retarded things I've ever read. He fails to realize that Clinton won the votes of those with higher education and income levels in WV at roughly the same ratio.

People from WV don't buy into the hipster-directed, feel good, sugar coated "let's change the WORLD" bull****. They know Obama isn't going to change anything in a meaningful way because, frankly, the man is a politician. To West Virginians, Clinton comes off as more down to Earth and less pipedream directed. That, more than anything else, is why Obama lost. To say that Appalachians are being conned more so than any other group is laughable. Anyone who supports any of these idiots with any sort of a passion beyond driving to a polling station and picking the one they feel is the least incompetent has been conned beyond belief.

I swear, the more drivel comes out of the mouths and keystrokes of non-Appalachians about how Appalachians supposedly think, the less hope I have for American culture. I really don't understand how some moron in Miami expects to write an intelligent column about Appalachians when he clearly knows nothing about them. And they call us ignorant. Pssssshhhh. This is ignorant AND pretentious.

Wondering if that 2 in 10 also includes blacks who voted for obama only because he was black. Also wondering if anyone tapped this guy on the shoulder to let him know which side of the civil war WV was on back in the day.
Anyone want to invite him to the hot dawg festival in huntington?

I think an alternate title for that newspaper article could be "Exit Pollster Discover 2 of 10 West Virginia Voters Incapable of Lying, Unlike Other States".
