Our West Virginia history leaves out many special certain things...
1. Early Road Bonds that developed our area of Virginia and opened up an infrastructure to the depots of the B&O
Railroad...thus creating a cash wealth for the farming surpluses.
2. The Cumberland to Wheeling section of that railroad....Wheeling having been the gateway to the west since the 1800's
with its steamboat trade.
3. Education and establishment of colleges in Western Virginia.
4. Establishment of churches...as they went hand in hand with the early elementary schools.
If we had remained a part of Virginia, we would have certainly rivaled Texas with its power and resources...true.
Local Unions have sold out to the highest bidder...all of them.
Our Gov is a coal baron who uses non-union labor in his operations...the strongest mining labor Union in this country the UMWA endorsed him for governor and contributed to his campaign...
Hope this answered your question..sets the standard for everyone else...consider them political action commitees...do little for environment safety and protecting the worker...sad...but true..we need better.
Aw yes... WV is not union friendly. That's not to say there are no unions in WV, just that the unions hold no particular safety net for the employees that pay their dues every month. Just ask the railroaders of Norfolk Southern, most of whom were union members in good standing. The Columbus Dispatch : Norfolk Southern layoffs so far total 150 in Ohio
