QC, the New River is supposedly the oldest/one of oldest in the US, and supposedly the 3rd oldest of current rivers, on the planet. The mighty Susquehanna is near top in US/world too.
Some sources say the FB is 2nd or 3rd in US/North America...other sources pitch it as top 5 in world, but most lists don't show it that high, in world.

Thanks MD, that is very interesting. Driving along these rivers, especially the Susquehanna is such pretty territory.
There's a great place to hike/camp on Hwy 181 north of Morganton. You can drive for a few miles into the woods and there are primitive camping sites set up. Many of them are along a creek or river, and it's awesome to be out by the fire at night and hear the water as you go to sleep. I can point it out to you on google maps if you want to check it out.
