After a rainy day on Saturday, Sugar Mountain's Octoberfest on Sunday was full to overflowing. See http://www.city-data.com/forum/weste...l#post41530020 for pics of the new lift construction that's underway.

With the less-than-ideal weather from the past couple of weeks, color in this area was pretty much at peak this past weekend. The colorful trees are turning brown. Here is a pic of Sugar Mtn taken yesterday through a window at High Country Tap Room, at the entrance to Sugar Mtn off Tynecastle Hwy.

Seems like an early fall to me. We're in Boone this weekend and have seen a lot of color but a lot of bare trees too. Had a great hike in Ell Knob State Park yesterday, avoiding the leaf peepers on the parkway. Lots of maples still with good color and lovely yellow beeches but we saw a mountain across the way that was pretty much bare. The yellow birch, beech, and maple in our yard here in Boone are very nice right now. It will definitely be well past the peak next weekend.

Some recent pics from around my 'neighborhood', up here on Eagles Nest Mtn...
About 'peak color' up here, though a few species of trees were stripped bare in the Joaquin storm a couple weeks ago.

The Autumn sunrises are spectacular, and the past week of A+ weather has been enjoyable, for doing outside stuff and for beauty rest time at night.

Autumn in western NC is about as good as it gets, in my experience.
Thanks for looking!
GL, mD

Thick valley fog, post 2 weeks of rain & Joaquin. From our deck...

I have blown the driveway a dozen times. If the leaves were dollar bills I could buy all the Regs & Faves a new car, lol!

Reflection in our community pond...

Sunrise this Saturday morning, 10-24...

It is!

Anywho, it seems the 2015 Fall color thread merged with is one. Hmmm. Ok. Well today was absolutely beautiful in Asheville. Just two days ago we walked at the arboretum and the color was just so so. Today it was spectacular! I'll hopefully get some pictures up tomorrow.

I had the joy of capturing these pics in Maggie Valley over the weekend. I took so many, it was hard to only share a few. It had just rained earlier making the color even more vibrant. It's my dream to have a 2nd home there someday.
