This just makes me wonder where on earth you are hanging out at. I've been here for (I think) over 4 years now. I've witnessed NONE of those things.
I've never had an issue grocery shopping, neither have my friends. I've also never had issues when running errands or doing other normal everyday things. I don't personally know anyone who has.
I don't think there is any gilded cage, I think you like to exaggerate.
I want to add, I use the laundromat by the Kum and Go and have NEVER seen any drug deals going on.
