There's gotta be a website out there for these and other stories.

I've visited Funny & Stupid Customer Stories – Not Always Right about nitwit customers. . .

This is hilarious.

My friend worked at a public library where people would call the reference desk and demand to know when a restaurant closed, or where the local DMV was or why a package was not delivered .... Nothing related to literature.

People would walk up to the desk and demand a half dozen books on an odd topic and they needed it right now as the paper was due in the morning.

Patrons would ask for help in revising their online dating profile...

People would leave piles of poop on the floor between the stacks.

Teenage patrons would have sex in the bathrooms.

The local schools would drop off busloads of students at 2:30. The students would roam around for hours, talking on cell phones and so forth. There were so many fights they had to have an armed security guard to keep the peace.

Both were unprofessional. Honestly, with a mother who runs anytime daddy sees a new woman, I can see where she learned her immature behavior from.

Oh, for crying out loud. Give it a rest. A temp who pumps a coworker with inappropriate questions about the marital situation of the boss is way out of line. This tale meets the ridiculous criteria of this thread.

Calling your mother about her odd behavior and her drop by to meet the nut case in person sounds like a hoot to me.

I dont' mean to cast aspirations on your behavior at work, but you've defended this clearly inappropriate behavior so often, I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps this is something you might have done in the past without realizing it's way off the charts.

Reminded me of an episode on The Big Bang Theory in which Bob Newhart asked Penny if her mother was married, when she told he him "yes" he asked, "Happily?"

At least he had the good sense not to ask if her hubby was in a home.

I was wondering the same thing, or if June has a problem with this poster that I'm just not aware of. Because the behavior is quite clearly out of line -- not something I'd be pulling the fire alarm on, but I'm just irreverent enough that I'd probably have called my mom too, and we'd have a good laugh about someone -- anyone -- being interested in dad. I doubt very much that her mom strolled in to confront the woman. I'm sure it was more to get a glimpse of the idiot who lacked class enough to think, it's OK to ask if spouse is in a nursing home.

Yeah, real subtle

It wasn't anytime Daddy sees a new woman, which I assumes he does on a regular basis, it was this woman odd behavior.

My steady Eddie, introverted dad came home one day with a revealing photo that a coworker who had been bringing him treats at work had included with the brownies that day

He was beyond uncomfortable, bewildered would have been too tame a description, and didn't know quite what to do. None of us did.

If there was every a happily married man, it was my dad.

My mother solved the problem by calling the woman and telling her that if she ever gave her hubby another chocolate chip cookie, let alone another photo of her stretched out in a bed wearing flimsy baby doll pajamas, she was going to contact her husband as she believed marriage counseling was in order.

You realize the temp did none of that?

Maybe I should get a hysterectomy? I don't think to be happily married to a man, you should threaten women who like him (no matter the degree). Ultimately, the choice to cheat on you is with him. At your mom was smart enough to know to think about counseling.

This just like reason a million and ten why I don't believe in nepotism. If father didn't have his immature daughter working, he probably wouldn't have an affair, and he wouldn't have his wife acting like that at his place of work. I'd be so embarrassed if my spouse. I wouldn't hire my child to work for me. Don't anyone reply that she had some type of impossible to find skill, any can be a secretary.

I work in Government too. I'm not overly surprised by this. Sometimes, we really miss the forest for the trees.

We have a very mentally ill gentleman who comes in every day and harasses the frontline staff for a bus token. He will call his caseworker, his social worker, whatever manager will take his call. He will stand in line (while others are waiting) and, gotta give him this -- in a very calm, cool tone -- ask and ask and not take 'no' for an answer and pester and harass and ask for that bus token. I got called downstairs one late afternoon, as a coverage person, and wasn't aware of his extensive history. I approached the client service specialist to ask, why not just issue him the $1 bus token? Get him out of our hair, save us a ton of phone calls and case notes and paperwork, a win-win all around. When she explained the real situation to me -- issue one token, he'll be back the next day for two -- and his extensive history of coming in every day, multiple times a day .... I realized it was a real problem (and wondered why their supervisor/manager hadn't found a way to put an end to it).

So, in real problem-solving mode, I approached the deputies who are situated right in the lobby, not more than 20 feet away from where the client service specialists are located. I quickly explained the situation, including my assessment that said gentleman was mentally ill, unable to advocate for himself, and would just need to be asked politely, by a person in obvious authority, to leave the customer specialist window once he's asked his routine question and received his routine answer. The deputy looked at me as if I was on crack -- actually, I should back up and say, the deputy that I addressed the question to rolled his eyes at me and looked away; I then made eye contact with the next in line, who looked at me as if I was on crack -- and said, "He's not being disruptive, I can't ask him to leave." I wanted to examine his badge to ensure it wasn't issued from a kid's playset, but held my temper and asked him to define 'disruptive' (and wondered why he'd think, with his gun and his badge and his position of authority and his 4x to 5x the salary of the clerks in front of him, that this problem is theirs to solve). He said that 'disruptive' means he's yelling/screaming/threatening. I asked him if he thought, perhaps it could also mean, one person holding up a line of dozens, wasting 15-20 minutes of an employee's time, asking the same question phrased slightly differently over ... and over ... and over again ("I need a bus token. I have to go to the VA today." "Sir, I told you yesterday and the day before and the day before and every day for the past year that we don't issue tokens unless we send you on an agency related appointment." "But I need a bus token.".... rinse, repeat). The deputy looked slightly uncomfortable (that could have been his ass shifting in his chair, though) and said, no, he's not being disruptive so long as he's not threatening the employee.

So I asked the deputy to reconsider his definition while I was going to run upstairs and call our director to see whose definition she thought made more sense. He all but laughed in my face at the veiled threat. Well, I should back up to say, he rolled his eyes at me. The deputy who had ignored me earlier laughed in a direction aimed at my face.

I did provide a brief summary of the issue to our director, who agreed that this is a problem that the deputies need to handle. We also checked in with his mental health case manager to ensure some kind of follow up there, too .....

And ....

Years later, this man is still showing up in the lobby, daily, asking for bus tokens .... only he's also added a new verse to the old one-trick pony show, and applies daily for benefits he is not entitled to. Daily. Every application has to be reviewed, pended, and denied. Daily.

Many folks pester govt. workers for bus tokens. Why some case manager along the way couldn't figure out how to get him a monthly bus pass is beyond me.

I would always check to see if perhaps they had someone else managing their money. Sometimes this person could be persuaded to buy them a bus pass. Or see if they could be signed up for a program that involved getting bus tokens for job seeking. I printed up a three page questionnaire about what employers they had contacted, how the contact had gone, what they needed to follow up with. When they would bring that filled-out questionnaire back, they could get another bus token.

I don't know what the big deal is with bus tokens as they are not that expensive and most who were forever bugging for tokens were on Disability so they were getting money. Many smoked, so clearly they had enough for bus tokens.

And the constant, constant stories about bus passes being stolen. Oh, Lord.

It is the coin of the realm among certain folks.

Wow.

Just wow.

You do realize I was relating a similar story, not this exact same thing happened to my dad. Right?

Plus, it fits under the heading of ridiculous things at work. I can't imagine his response if the woman had reached down and grabbed his junk as happened to a previous poster. He was embarrassed enough as it was to get the photo.

I'm not sure where the hysterectomy comes in. That came out of the clear blue.

There is huge difference between liking a man and pumping coworkers about whether his wife is in a nursing home.

Though how the temp would know she likes him is a mystery as this was her first day on the job and I imagine she exchanged little more than a sentence or two, if that, with the dad. Attorney time is way too expensive to spend chit chatting with the temps.

As to anyone can be a secretary, was this a joke?

I'm sorry. I forgot you need a PhD and ten years of experience before you're allowed the honor or being a secretary.
