I often feel guilty. I got this job by luck, and by having cultivated a relentlessly cheerful persona for years. My work is fun, and I'm paid so very well. I look around and see others, at other firms or businesses, whose work is unpleasant or taxing, and who are not well-paid. It's such a crapshoot.
What does your company do to retain you and keep you happy/content at your job?
4 weeks vacation from day one as well a 5 sick days, discounted stock, pension, 401k match, paid training, excellent pay and excellent benefits start the day your hired, discounts on your medical pruimum when you do there wellness program, free safety shoes every year, fee breakfast sometime for specail events, free employee picnic every year, bonus every year, roughly a 10% bonus every year, and all the paid overtime you want for a month every two years. There also so golf outings in the summer, but I don't golf.
Why does a company have to do anything to retain an employee and keep them "happy?"
People are free to leave at anytime. People will leave. An employee's "happiness" is not the responsibility of any company.
The idea is when you develop people through training and experience, you want to keep them around because it will costs way more to train replacement employees, even if you can find someone with the same level of expertise.
