I wouldn't say we are public sector. We are a government contracting company

After thinking about it a ton last night, I don't think I am 'mad' at the fact about the raise (I mean, good for her and all). I just think I am more upset about the fact that I am clearly going above and beyond what I was originally brought on for. Putting in more hours than asked, and all I do is get criticism from people. Before me, my company only had 1 recruiter. Now we have 2. Since I began in October, I have made our turn-around applicant-to-hire time about one week, where it used to be 2+ weeks. I am also always on top of my game and getting back to people asap.

Makes me feel like I am putting in all of this extra effort for nothing, since they don't seem to appreciate what I have brought to the company. This whole thing just made me uneasy and now I don't want to go the extra mile anymore

I’m not sure I see the problem here.

Is it widely known you are moving back to the west coast? Have you mentioned this in months past? If so, even casually, I can see why you wouldn’t get a raise.

You are also comparing 2 different roles with 2 different salary band structures. Two different departments with different budgets.

You’re leaving anyway. Do a good-enough job and plan your move.

Nope. No one knows I am leaving. They all think that I am here for the long-run.

Is your move set in stone in your mind or flexible?

If you are seriously thinking of moving on in a couple of months you could parlay this into a conversation with your management on their view of your performance, the value you bring, and your compensation - without mentioning the other worker (which is pointless and petty.)

You can use the “I am coming up to a year here and wanted to touch base” angle.

If they are less than receptive, or wishy-washy with respect to your growth path, then when you leave it won’t be a surprise.

If you bring this up to management, don't mention that you know she is getting a raise unless there was a careless announcement or something made.

I’d t it possible she’s just a better negotiator than you are and that’s why she got more? I am a horrible negotiator and especially in my first job after college, I lowballed myself badly. So it was on me that I want making as much as my coworkers.

Why oh why is the H.R. Director talking to you about someone else's salary? I'd be a little apalled that she's flapping lips, talking about other people's salaries.

I wonder what she tells other people about you.
