America's cultural values include the pursuit of opportunity and happiness, individualism, liberty, defiance, bravery, pluralism, capitalism, democracy, barbecuing, American football, baseball, race cars, the open road, experimental music, film, MAN i can go on... and we're what, not even 250 years old yet? I'd say American's are very cultural.
wanna quote any examples?
seems like mostly people trying to say American culture is poor.
American culture isn't poor at all. It is very rich .. especially to those who live here and understand things like some different regions and their different contributions/colloquialisms/things they say that you might not "get" at first.
And you can never appreciate the culture of any other city, let alone country, on outward appearances.
Mark Twain, one of the most perceptive authors and best writers of the last 2 centuries, in my opinion, would never have claimed to really "know" any country, not even all parts of the USA. How could someone here claim to be such a higher reference than Mark Twain, to be able to even compare "cultural richness" of countries as if they know? I call BS even if it was unintentional BS.
I was just stressing the point that Islam vs. Christianity is a bigger problem than American influence in the Western world. Many cultures in the middle east are intolerant of other religions. It's in many of their national constitutions, Sharia Law, to not accept other religions. Some of their citizens become radicalized and treat the West as infidels. With or without United States influence, Europe will always be a terrorist target. Just like during the crusades. That was my point.

It is, (in comparison to many other places,) but if the "depth and richness of culture" would have been the decisive factor in attraction of the country, Russia would have already collapsed from the whole world rushing in. Instead, even her own people are running away like crazy, ( great ballet or not,) and it gets increasingly empty))
European countries of course can give the US "run for the money" ( culturally that is,) but they are relatively small and they don't have the same enormous task of assimilating half of the world and making something out of it.
So don't whine that the US is not as culturally rich as the Old World, accept it gracefully and think positively why your country is still attractive to many, even if it clearly lacks in ballet department.
Some culture is valued more highly than others though.. when people think of culture, they think of art, dance, theatre, film, museums, music (not the tacky modern kind).. not hockey, baseball, barbecues and apple pie. Countries like France have a more valued culture because it stretches thousands of years, and no doubt many associate France with classy and sophisticated lifestyles, drinking wine on a balcony overlooking central Paris or a vineyard near the Mediterranean. Not to mention their cuisine is probably amongst the best in the world, and rated highly by most people.

Yeah i'd like to go to Europe and go into peoples homes and see how many American products we can find, see how many American programs are on their television and see how much American music they listen to.
You'll find a lot, but the American products we see on a daily basis are often scorned and ridiculed for the 'dumbing down' of society, as well as unhealthy lifestyles and poor diets in general when regarding your much-vaunted McDonald's, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
how is ballet more cultural than say, playing hockey or baseball or preparing some delicious barbecue or apple pie or watching a Broadway show?
i just don't get how one cultural classification can outweigh another cultural classification?? culture is culture.
Ask OP, why talking about "rich culture" he came up with specific parameters such as "depth of art," literature, museums, architecture and such.
