In fact San Diego is more international than Manchester holding com-icon and other world famous events in their city.
And you think that none of this is true of Manchester!!? Why is that exactly? Why do you think that there is more 'global integration' in San Francisco? The truth is you don't know do you, you are simply spouting things you don't actually know anything about! More international fame? Really? What do you base that particular gem on? Outside the US San Francisco is not exactly well known? I personally wouldn't be stupid enough to make such claims about Manchester because the truth is it depends on where you reside.

It's the tech and innovation capitol of the planet, one of the world's research hubs, one of the biggest wealth centers on earth, a huge hub for immigration (more than anywhere in Europe excepting London), home to (arguably) the most prestigious university on earth and one of the most iconic cities anywhere.

I didn't mean to offend you or your country. I just meant to state that San francisco does have MORE international organizations, global leaders from around the world travel there to vist confrences and try to attract business, it has MORE multi-national corporations, I never said Manchester had none.

Also yes, San Francisco is more recognizable, the world over can recognize the golden gate bridge, Manchester has nothing to compare.

Like I said, you may think so but people in other parts of the world may not, I don't know much about the place, it doesn't exactly get mentioned much over here, do you actually know anything about immigration and Manchester? What makes you think that San Francisco is a bigger 'hub' for immigration than Manchester? As for the University comment I doubt it! What is the name of this University? Is it more prestigious than Oxford (a university for a thousand years) or Cambridge? What makes you think so exactly? I wouldn't dream of making stupid statements like 'Manchester is more 'worldly than San Francisco' just because I know and hear a LOT more about Manchester than I do about San Francisco, I am smart enough to realise that being English this is going to be likely, let me guess are you American by any chance!?

Liverpool ....480,000 .....metro 2.2 million

Not world class but still interesting fairly large cities.
None of those cities are desirable. Birmingham is a dump, Glasgow and Liverpool can be very depressing and Manchester, though the best of the lot, really underperforms for a city of nearly 3,000,000. Without its soccer team, it would be in decline like the rest of the lot.

The UK has a fantastic #1 city, a bunch of really ugly, grotesque and decaying secondary cities, and then a trove of beautiful provincial towns like Bath, York, Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Chester, etc.

I'm guessing they're referring to Berkeley which, to be fair, is pretty well-known! However, it isn't strictly in San Francisco as such but is in the bay area, just north of Oakland. The bay area is most certainly the tech capital of the world, I think it would be difficult to argue against that. Where Manchester beats the whole bay area is in music, and by quite a margin.

There is so much poverty in California though. There are so many other factors to consider before determening how "well" a location is doing.

oxford and Cambridge are no where near Manchester. Universities in the bay area include Stanford and Berkeley, which, while not being as old, are equal to and even better in some ways to the two universities you mention near London (not Manchester). And yes, the golden gate bridge is more recognizable than anything in Manchester, period.
