I'm surprised more people don't believe in the alien theory a la Prometheus and the space engineers as opposed to the whole monotheism thing and taking religious texts literally. Once we prove there's intelligent life elsewhere which will probably happen within the next 100 years (some say we already have)..it's game on.

UK is much more secular. Parts of the US are secular and the formerly religious holidays are more of a tradition than anything else. Except the American south which seems to be ruled by various "Christian" religions that seem to control a large area of their lives and their thoughts.
In the northeast, many people still go to church and believe in God but the church doesn't play a large role in their lives like it might have done one hundred years ago.

Cleveland and Pittsburgh would be somewhere in the middle. More secular than the nation but there are still a lot of religious constituencies in each. Pittsburgh is more secular than Cleveland since Cleveland has a large Black Christian population.

Northern Ireland is less secular than the rest of the UK. Anyway from the people I met from the UK, it tends to be people from Northern Ireland that are more likely to state they are from a Christian religion than other parts of the UK.
Although the UK has a state church, the general mindset people have is more secular. Americans are significantly more enthused about ensuring religion has a strong presence in society.
I agree with this. My family came from England, and our slant on religion has always been that it is a part of our identity, but it does not have a lot of influence. We are believers, but we tend to be only Christmas and Easter church goers, and throw money at it the rest of the time. The church is there for holidays, births deaths weddings and funerals.
