In Italy foreign cuisine is not that popular, especially in comparison with places such as London or NYC where foreign restaurants are literally everywhere and thrive.
Aside from that consideration, I'd say that "Chinese", Indian and Kebab are the most common, with a honourable mention for Sushis (half of which run by Chinese disguised as Japanese capitalising on people's inability to distinguish the two).
Funny, I and most other Canadians on here didn't even think of American cuisine as "foreign"...
There are very few restaurants of authentic American cuisine in the US, by the way, they have a magnificent cuisine.
But authentic American cuisine relies on expensive materials, a lot of magnificent fish, soups, authentic BBQ -only found at a very few places, etc.
So American restaurants are now luxury restaurants for the most parts, as most people eat ersatz Italian, Chinese and related foreign inspired low quality food.

Stop glorifying "American cuisine" if it does exist, although it is an American dominated forum. It is kind of embarrassing. Stop using "magnificent". I don't think you know what the word means.
Italian and Chinese food are not of low quality. They are only so when in America but the owners know they can get away with it there when the customers' normal diet includes nothing but burgers, salad and canned beans.
In Portugal foreign cuisines are not very popular but its attitudes are changing. Italian, Brazilian (particularly steakhouses), Sushi (Not the rest of Japanese cuisine though, it remains unpopular) and to a very small extent, Chinese and Indian foods.
