A homicide rate of 3.35 by Western European standards is a bit high, but nothing extraordinary. Malmo, Marseille, Liege, and some towns in Southern Italy have similar homicide rates to NYC
The really outrageous crime numbers in America happen in low-income black neighborhoods of certain cities. For example, last year Baltimore had a homicide rate of 55.3 per 100,000. The city is 63% black. You might be thinking how are these crime numbers even possible. Unfortunately, it's a fact in certain isolated areas because there is so much drugs and gang violence.
By contrast, the typical white suburbs and other middle class neighborhoods have a homicide rate of around 1.2 per 100,000. That is the "normal" homicide rate in most of America.
It has been this way for many decades. But people cannot speak publicly about this issue because it causes too much controversy. Not surprisingly, Donald Trump gets branded a racist because he dares to even mention the condition of America's inner cities. It is political hot water.

It should be mentioned and dealt with. It's a disgrace. But the inner-city Blacks are Americans too, just like the "1.2 homicide rate" suburban Whites, so it's not something you could and should simply ignore.
Why is the US on the list? Mass shootings, profound ignorance among the masses, unsustainable cities/suburbs, incredibly high health care costs with mediocre service, poor economic mobility, militarized police forces, massive income inequality and on and on. And no it's not just because of Trump (although he's helping to accelerate the decline). Born and raised here, love this country... but we're not #1 in everything. Unless you mean #1 for most incarcerated.
Add to this inadequate and incredible expensive education, poor work-life balance, and the fact that the U.S. isn’t very competitive with other countries when it comes to taking care of its workers.
"There are already about 150 million adults living in countries around the world who would migrate to the United States if they could, according to a Gallup survey.
The 150 million people whom Gallup estimated would like to come to the United States includes 22 million Chinese, 15 million Nigerians, 10 million Indians, 8 million Bangladeshis, 7 million Brazilians, 5 million Filipinos, 5 million Mexicans, and 3 million each from Vietnam, Kenya, Japan and the United Kingdom.
In Liberia, 37 percent of all adults want to leave their homeland and move permanently to the United States of America. In Sierra Leone, it’s 30 percent. In Dominican Republic, it’s 26 percent. In Haiti, it’s 24 percent. And in Cambodia, it’s 22 percent. America's popularity might also be because of its receptivity to migrants." https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article...t-immigrate-us http://news.gallup.com/opinion/gallu...g-america.aspx
Do you see many people from rich and developed countries wanting to move to the USA? (except for
Japan, which is surprising).
There are people who are leaving the US. We know how many people immigrate to the US, to within a reasonable margin. But we barely have a clue how many leave.
Mexico is the main destination for recent emigrants, and the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, Ireland, Australia, and Italy are also major gainers. Americans are moving to Europe (and other countries) at an increasing rate. Since 2009, citizenship renunciations have skyrocketed...
Survey says: 35% of Americans would want to expatriate...

You do not ignore it but it should be taken in the right context...a professional moving to the US or pretty much any legal immigrant (you either move to the US if you have qualifications or for family reunion and the family needs to have the financial means to sponsor you) has very little chance (pretty much none) of ending up in these "war zones". In practical terms, America is pretty much as safe as any other first world country even if statistically the murder rate is 4-5 times higher than Western Europe (which starts at insignificant levels, often well below 1 X 100.000)
Black people (and any other race), by the way, live in suburban areas too so these are not "White" areas
By the way, in 2017 the historical trend of decline in crime rate across the board (general crime, violent crime and murder rate) resumed after 2 years of a small increases. Hopefully these 2 years were just a blip.
