So is comorones some kind of slangy reference to them? There is Cameroon, but a nationality there doesn't seem to make any sense either.

Comorants (a type of bird) live on an island called Comorones - some people call the birds "comorones" apparently. What do I know - I just did a search for the word and these pictures of an island and some birds came up.
