There was a girl in one of the high schools I attended, going for shock-value and obviously not one of the brightest bulbs in the lamp, actually wrote "Hail SATIN!" on her notebooks
(She was going for the other word, and clearly was not an English major)

I think if we added a comma between thicker and then, it would make sense later on when they go through a nasty break up.
