Description: Another of the city’s long-established hotels, this one is right across Brambleton Avenue from Scope and Chrysler Hall and just a short stroll from the Granby Street restaurants and clubs. The hotel was renovated in 2009 and offers 175 guest rooms and eight suites.

Description: If you have business on the base or you’re in town to welcome home a loved one, you’ll probably want to stay nearby to avoid the traffic. Well, you can’t get much closer to the gates than this place. There are 117 rooms here with single king or two double beds. There are smoking rooms and wheelchair-accessible rooms as well. You also get complimentary breakfast and beverages and there’s a fitness room and indoor pool.

Description: This hotel is 2 miles from the airport, which is located adjacent to the Norfolk Botanical Garden’s so there isn’t the cluster of hotels associated with many big city airports. The Hilton offers free shuttle service to and from Norfolk International. There’s complementary wireless Internet here, and the hotel’s 247 guest rooms were recently renovated. There’s also a new indoor pool and whirlpool and an outdoor pool for the warmer months. The hotel is just off I-64, which makes it an easy drive to many bases and businesses. Even the Oceanfront is only 11 miles away. This is one of the few pet friendly hotels in the area, but there is a $75 non-refundable fee, and any animal over 75 pounds must stay in a kennel.

It’s near all the nightspots and an easy stroll to the MacArthur Center mall. Parking here is not free but $1 an hour or $19 per day. Every one of the 397 rooms and eight suites has a view of the working harbor where you never know what kind of ship will come by next, from sailing schooners to aircraft carriers. High-speed Internet is extra here, but you get unlimited free local and national calls. Shula’s 347, legendary Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula’s steakhouse, is located here and there is a dining room for breakfasts and a piano lounge for dinner.

Description: This bed and breakfast is the only AAA 4 Diamond rated lodging in Hampton Roads, an honor it has held for 15 consecutive years. The inn dates to 1899, and it’s located next door to the Chrysler Museum of Art in the heart of Ghent and just a few blocks from Granby Street’s nightlife. There are seven rooms to rent here, all furnished in period pieces, from brass canopy beds to rooms with gas log fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. They even have a fitness room so you can keep current with your exercise schedule as you relax in history. There’s afternoon refreshments, including fresh-baked cookies in the informal parlor and, of course, a breakfast to remember in the dining room every morning. If you want to sleep in, you can pay extra for breakfast to be served in your room.

Description: Another hotel less than a mile from the Norfolk Naval Station’s main gate, the Quality Inn offers free continental breakfast and Internet, a heated indoor pool and a hot tub. There are 119 rooms here. You can walk to the Tour and Information Office and board one of the bus tours of the world’s largest Naval base. If you book in advance you can get a room for under $100 a night here.

The entire hotel was recently upgraded in a $32 million renovation. There are 468 rooms and nine luxury suites and a brand new fitness facility that’s open around the clock to fit your schedule. There’s an outdoor pool and a sundeck where you can dine. You’re near the action on Granby Street and also close enough to walk to a baseball game at Harbor Park.
