Description: Located on the second floor of Nauticus on the Elizabeth River beside the Battleship Wisconsin, this is a free museum run by the Navy. Exhibits trace the Navy’s role from the Battle off the Virginia Capes in the Revolutionary War to modern times. Many of the displays explore local naval events during the Civil War, the Jamestown Exposition, and the sailing of the Great White Fleet from Hampton Roads. Learn here how Norfolk became a Navy town, see items from the Cuban Missile Crisis, and then take the Wisky Walk that traces the history of the Battleship Wisconsin before visiting the actual ship.

Description: This home was built in 1894 and the last surviving family member created the Hunter Foundation to operate the home, donating “the furniture, decorations, paintings, and curios” as a museum and example of Victorian architecture. The home opened to the public in 1988 and offers guided tours Apr through Dec each year. It’s also the headquarters of a local chapter of the Victorian Society in America, and is named for the society’s founder, Eloise Dexter Hunter. They offer special programs for Girl Scout troops and individual scout visits.

Description: Capt. William Willoughby, a descendant of the man whose land would eventually become Norfolk, built this historic home in 1794. It remained in the family until 1890 and was bought in 1964 and restored by the Norfolk Historic Foundation. The home has been administered by the Chrysler Museum since 1969, and in 2005 it opened as the Norfolk History Museum. The home’s exhibits examine the city’s architectural, commercial, maritime, and military history using Chrysler artifacts. Admission is free and it is open Wed through Sun.
