  • Food shall be obtained from sources that comply with law
    Observation: dried buffalo meat in the walk-in cooler (called Sikuti) originated from family and friends in the country of Nepal where it was said that the drying processing took place on the farm over an open fire and shipped to the US as a gift. Because the processing of the Buffalo meat is not considered to be from an approved source, the meat shall not be offered for sale and needs to be removed from the store. The total quantity consists of approximately 70 pounds and the store management has agreed to not offer the product for sale.
  • Food is properly labeled
    Observation: many packaged foods from the company APNA consisting of raisens, cashews, peanuts ajwain, cumin, methi seed and others are not labeled with the proper measure of net weight. All net contents must be labeled with the net contents in metric and standard measurement. Some products contained the standard measurement and others contained the metric measurement but few contained both. Swad products were also found to be missing proper weight declaration on corn flour. Additionally, Packages of Whole Large Betelnut from India were not labeled at all and need to be. Minimum labeling requirements include the name and contact information of the company, the common name of the food, a list of ingredients anytime two or more ingredients are combined together, the net contents in metric and standard measurement and any cautionary statement that includes disclosing any allergens.
