But yeah, you need to prove residency for that. But OP never asked that, so... Just asked "how to be a resident?" There is nothing special to claim that. Anyone can claim that. I am from New York, but have not been back in 20 years. I still say I am a "New Yorker".
Would you care to explain why I had to wait three years to qualify?

I can be worse, especially to people who spread lies and misinformation in the Alaska forum.

You stated that

In response to someone who told the OP that he/she does not qualify for the check. That is a lie.

You can be prosecuted in a number of states for trying to take advantage of resident-only perks, such as "the check," in-state tuition, weaseling out of taxes specific to the state you really do live in, resident fees for fishing and hunting licenses, etc. You can't simply just claim residency and get on the gravy train.

Right now I'd settle for above room-temperature.

Perhaps this one is easier to understand (it pertains to F&G and applying for a hunting license, for example, not a PFD check):

Every now and then, I consider becoming a resident again so I can run for the legislature and knock some sense into a few heads in Juneau, but then I come to my senses and realize I'd rather spend the winters in Belize.

Seriously, crap like this is part of the reason I wish they'd do away with the check altogether. They probably will, since the state is close to broke, so those of you considering it as one of the "perks" of living in Alaska should realize the chances of it going away or being drastically reduced are pretty substantial.
I thought it was Federal money?

I have been in Alaska for over 35 years, and don't disagree with you Met, about getting rid of the PDF once and for all. I would vote for the legislature to use it all for the budget versus taxing the people.

I think that Helga99 is just pushing our buttons.

Residency Definitions, Alaska Department of Fish and Game
The PFD does not make the rules for establishing what a resident is though.

Joking? I don't think so? And this thread is not about the PFD though. It is about "residency".
