No, the State does, and if you look at the webpage you will notice that it is a State Government page.

Here you go (the State law):
http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/g...=27&docid=7714

Just read this one above, and perhaps it will end your arguments about residency in Alaska.

The F&G website gives you an idea about what is considered an Alaska resident in order to attain a fishing or hunting license, and is very simple to understand (that's why I posted it). But the one for the PFD is more specific, and relates only for PFD purposes. However, all of the State agencies follow the rules spelled out above. The PFD is not a federal fund, but one of the State of Alaska.

Apparently there is one state that has a residency law. What do you get after becoming a resident? Is there like a badge or an ID? Is there any incentive to obtain this status? Do non-residents lack any rights? This law sounds illegal.

Also, if you "just decide to be a resident of Alaska" yet remain living in another state, you run the risk of being found in violation of that state's tax laws if you file as a resident of Alaska in order to avoid paying personal income tax in the state you actually live in.

Agreed about the troll.

A personal income tax is probably inevitable, and I really don't see it as an either/or. It's frustrating because people saw this coming years ago...and now they're acting all amazed when the time has come to pay the piper. There's a lot of blame being thrown at those in the legislature just now, and some of it's rightfully placed, but the Alaska voters voted out anyone who even so much as broached this subject in the past.

Seems you can be a resident without even being in the state for 5 years, like I said. Which is strange then they they could categorize people as "resident" or "non-resident".

When you file your federal taxes, do you enter any state you feel like entering in the tax forms, or do you enter the state you are a resident of?

Again read the F&G residency status for applying for a license. It's very easy to understand. Just keep in mind that for the PFD additional rules apply.

It doesn't matter for you if you are a resident or not because you can't afford Alaska.

Six people couldn't survive on $600/mo living out of a f***ing car here. Even if you COULD all fit in one. And you didn't freeze to death. And, and, and...

But...in the thread where she's moving to Spokane, she's got piles and piles of loot.

I doubt Helga has ever filed a federal in her life.
