It has nothing to do with destroying native cultures, and everything to do with upholding the state constitution. Gov. Palin is upholding her oath of office, something Gov. Knowles refused to do, and Gov. Murkowski failed to do. The Alaska State Constitution says:

Quote:
Article 8 - Natural Resources
§ 1. Statement of Policy
It is the policy of the State to encourage the settlement of its land and the development of its resources by making them available for maximum use consistent with the public interest.

§ 2. General Authority
The legislature shall provide for the utilization, development, and conservation of all natural resources belonging to the State, including land and waters, for the maximum benefit of its people.

§ 17. Uniform Application
Laws and regulations governing the use or disposal of natural resources shall apply equally to all persons similarly situated with reference to the subject matter and purpose to be served by the law or regulation.
It is quite clear that all natural resources are to be shared equally among all Alaskans for the maximum benefit of Alaskans. Instituting any sort of preferential treatment would violate Section 17, of Article 8, of the Alaska Constitution. If the federal government deliberately violates the Alaska Constitution the Governor of Alaska is required by oath to challenge that violation.

That does not say that each individual Alaskan must receive part of or even access to any natural resource though. It says maximum benefit of Alaskans... which can also be construed to mean that it should support a healthy Alaska, including a viable bush economy.

A bush subsistence priority would be an excellent way to maximize the benefit for all Alaskans. Indeed it appears to be something voters feel strongly enough about that they would change the wording of our Constitution to clarify it, if Republicans would allow them to vote on it.

Obviously that is not quite true.

That is not true either. Regardless, the courts have already ruled, and continuing a legal battle trying to overturn it is a waste of the resources of all Alaskans.

the *fraud*
The etymology of the phrase "The Pot calling the Kettle black" refers to the fact that both pots and kettles turned equally black when hung over a fire. And is used to describe a situation in which somebody comments on or accuses someone else of a fault which the accuser shares. The phrase itself has been in use since circa 1500, and has absolutely nothing to do with race or slavery or any other silliness.

Glitch, are you a lawyer? Note what it says: "Laws and regulations governing the use or disposal of natural resources shall apply equally to all persons similarly situated with reference to the subject matter and purpose to be served by the law or regulation"

A person in Anchorage is not "similarly situated" to a person in a remote bush area in reference to certain resources, such as fish or game. That wording is there for a reason, or else they would have simply left it at "equal" without inserting some words that entirely change the meaning.

I'm not ashamed of her, if they don't win the election I'll be happy to have her here as our governor. Who the hell are you to judge her because of her daughter? We can teach our children right and wrong and support them on anything until we turn blue in the face, but in the end they will do what they want, and we as parents can't do a damn thing about it but hope and pray that they will make the right decisions. To use her daughter's situation against her is rather low...go peck somewhere else!

If that isn't one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard? Like you don't know anyone in NH that has had a kid get pregnant before marriage? I assume you think you are really funny with the names, some people never grow up, they remain as 6 and 7 year olds? Isn't the election about issues and not personality???
