This makes me very nervous, I'm getting on a plane Monday morning to fly to Fairbanks.
On a wing and a prayer I suppose.......

I don't think you'll find many terrorists flying to Fairbanks this time of year. But security might be a tad more harsh. Pat downs and such.

How I long for the old days (meaning, until the end of 1990s) when you could breeze through the boarding gate 5 minutes before take-off. Now forever gone.

True, but I have to start out in St. Louis with a few stops along the way.

Well... two thoughts:
1. AGAIN, this person was on the list- yet no one reviewed his visa papers AND he had no checkup in Amsterdam. How a person on the list of persons of intrest can breeze through with no extra checkup?
Why? They retain and hussle US Senators again and again because of name similiarities.
Even young children.
2. I forgot what it was. But they rutinely, but pointlessly bother Americans, Caucasians and let thru foreginers clearly falling into the visual and religious ranks of people who actually cause danger.
Is there any responsibility for the security services? To search tru 500000 name database takes what, a second?

That's political correctness for you, all this claptrap about multicultural sensitivity and that sort of rubbish. Andrew Sullivan says it best:

...when I watch little old ladies have their lipstick removed in the security line and my own mother all but strip-searched coming to my wedding, you wonder why someone named Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab who's on a no-fly list could have gotten through security with an explosive contraption strapped to his leg...

Yeah. I'm flying to Minneapolis, Seattle then Juneau on the 8th. Oh hell.

1. He went through security and screening in NIGERIA (does anyone think that screening was effective?).

2. His father reported him to the US Embassy last month because his son was becoming increasingly radicalized, and he was concerned that his son presented a clear and present danger to innocents

3. He spent time in Yemen (which is apparently becoming the new Al Qaeda training ground), and had ties to the same dipsh*t cleric as the Ft Hood shooter

4. He was on the terror watch list, but it was deemed that there was not enough negative information on him to put him on the no-fly list. He paid cash for the ticket and carried no luggage.

5. No pillows, no blankets, and no bathroom visits one hour before landing is the immediate response to this incident. Holy crap.

Anybody with a name like Abdulfarouk Umar Abdulmuttallab should not be allowed on any flight (international or domestic) without a great deal of additional security and scrutiny at airports. I don't care how much we hurt their feelings. Jim Smith isn't trying to blow up goddamned planes - Mohammed and Abdul are.

You've got political correctness out of control. Obama sucking up to Muslims. Government agencies where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing (or worse, doesn't care). A White House team that doesn't inform the President of the United States about a foiled terrorist attempt (excuse me - manmade incident) (that was only foiled because of a mulfunctioning detonator and the quick thinking of random passengers on the flight) for THREE HOURS. A government unsupportive of its own intelligence gathering operatives. Terrorists receiving more rights than our own Special Ops guys. And an immediate response by the airlines to stop folks from using the godamned restroom.

Can you say perfect storm?
