Hey Seeker..

I'm down with the above enumerated principles, but am left wondering what is supposed to be the "joke" part of the presentation. The above made you laugh?

The same thing occurred to me. I think we have to recognize that many cartoons or jokes are used to make a polemic point. In politics, cartoons are used as part of the battle for hearts and minds.

I have noticed that many of the 'Jokes' posted here are of that kind and I'm fine with that. SeekerSA's post was the polemic point in cartoon form, but there was no attempt to push the message with a joke.

Whether that is off -topic or something (I can't think where else you'd put it) that's one for the mods.

There is nothing there which qualifies the presentation as a cartoon. Perhaps if the one profile silhouette graphic featured was that of Donald Duck, but otherwise I'm going to rule that we are not looking at a cartoon, we are looking at a propaganda broadside.

Further, I'm going to rule that the minimum required for something to appear in a thread dedicated to jokes is that the reader may at least detect some attempt at humor. The Transmission Electron Holography Microscope, the world's most powerful such instrument, is located at the University of Victoria in Canada. Had I the use of that device, I still would be unable to discover what was supposed to be funny with that post.

Cartoons are drawn pictures making a point. The original term was I believe small templates for large murals. At the risk of repeating myself, I agree the joke was lacking, but here was no less appropriate than any other thread, and perhaps more.

As to Ruling, you don't get to do that And the mods haven't deleted it yet.
