This is so much bogus nonsense and undeserved guilt-ridden absurdity. We have no culpability or responsibility for what our ancestors did or did not do. We do have a responsibility to the country that nurtures us and provides our freedoms and protections . . and we owe it the respect it earns for what it does and stands for TODAY, period. National holidays reflect our heritage and are part and parcel of our culture. They are positive events . . . not National guilt-fests or apologies for the religious aspects of our culture. People like you with your PC whining and moaning about past transgressions need to get a life and live in the PRESENT!
Well, right from the get go, how can one live in the present and recount heritage? In other words, how can something be present, and modern and up to date and still retain the values that make it heritage. Isn't that the purpose of having heritage, to remember the past?
It is very true. You did NOT carry out any of these actions. Yet almost every single one of them has gone to your benefit and not theirs. No one today is responsible for these past actions. Yet you still reap the benefits of them when you celebrate this American holiday on "American" ground.
I can't possibly make it any more clear that I agree that holidays should reflect the positive aspects of our heritage. I get it. I understand that perfectly. I am in 100% total agreement. I am saying that this holiday clearly is not an accurate portrayal of our heritage. It's fine to have a holiday. It's great to have family get-together's every year. And I think pretty much anyone and everyone is supportive of that. I am simply saying that this shouldn't be labeled as being our heritage. If it were truly our heritage, We would still break bread with the Natives on Thanksgiving - it would be their holiday also. And with rare exception it is not their holiday.

We don't get to decide what is or is not part of our heritage . . . it is what it is. But we DO get to decide what aspects of our heritage we wish to celebrate as National Holidays. We don't need some PC bastages throwing wet blankets on our celebrations because they prefer to dwell on the more negative aspects.
The Bible has a very big belt. It covers the South and stretches all the way to Texas. If there really was a God I would think that he must be extremely obese.

It's called the bible "belt" because they beat you with their dogma.

This is exactly what I am saying. Heritage cannot be changed. It cannot be picked or chosen. So when we go picking through our heritage to find only the good parts we aren't really representing that heritage - we're cherry picking it. This national holiday celebration is only founded on a fraction of the real thing and the other 90% of it is fluff. I am trying to say that the holiday does not represent our heritage and should not claim to do so.
And could you please stop with the name calling... it's quite unnecessary.

Absurd . . . You are suggesting that we select for CELEBRATION the sordid aspects of our past? I swear the PC mindset is irrational.

What names have I called you. Can you not distinguish between your own self-identification with a cause . . . Political Correctness . . . (which I disparge and characterize with extreme negativity for the damage it does to my society) . . . and calling YOU names? This sort of "generic taking of offense" is the signature evil of PC.
