If I wanted her to learn religion, I would send her to Sunday School. Monday through Friday's curriculum should focus on actual education.
We didn't like the anti believer stance of pub skool, so we chose to homeschool.

Our kids thank us constantly.

I think prayer and religion should be either after school, or like some do.... you have a choice to go to religious instruction or do crafts or reading stories or music or something..or even PE.. it should remain a choice for all. Or yes, on Sunday, good old Sunday school for those who chose to go to it.
If religion was kept out of all schools, it would be fairer to all students, because if you have muslim, Catholic, Jewish, etc,... kids under one roof, it's impossible to treat them all the same. They have different holidays and that alone makes it hard.
Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday so why the prayers? thanksgiving is about eating till you pop a vein or some buttons at least and watching football and preparing your shopping list for black Friday! ...that's how it is in most households, people shouldn't try to make it another religious thing. Who is anyone kidding?
Get that 'under God' stuff out of there and stop trying to add religion ..
It's up to parents to raise their kids with or without it. They know where the church is, they can enroll the kids in religious training or do it themselves...spend some time and teach your kids religion if it's so important to you.. but keep it out of schools.

The point, Maggie . . . is that it represents the celebration of our survival on this continent with the aid of the Native Americans. IT was what it was and prayer was an essential part of it. Stop trying to revise history in line with PC totalitarianism.

Look at how the native people are treated and thanked for their help to this day. They prayed with the natives just long enough to get to where they didn't need them anymore and then they jailed them on the reservations. That first thanksgiving was just a nice story to tell the children, I doubt there were any peace pipes smoked or turkeys or anything. They took what they could and left the natives high and dry plus they brought some 'white' deseases along with them ....that's the real history....history books are being changed everyday so what part you believe is your choice. It also depends on whoms story you read....

they are pilgrims en descendants of them and those who came ashore later...white people ....just like they did in South America and all over with their missionaries, talking about their religion and in the meantime BS'ing the locals to take their gold or silver or anything else they fancied. The real pilgrim story is nothing more than white people taking from people who were there long before they were. Of course you'd chose to believe the pilgrims were peace loving and just trying to settle someplace and all that...Over time it became the little fairytale it is now.

MaggieZ....

The history of this country Under Pilgrims is older than pre-Constitutional & Independant United States.
The Pilgrims and Natives (indians) had great relations after the initial fear of newness war off.

The Colonial people's generations were long gone before the Indian wars in the 19th century.

10+ generations had passed before ever an Indian was Reserved.

Thats' what they say now....I don't believe the history books. There are two sides to everything, white people like to believe they did right. Do you really think they'll tell their children and future generations that they enslaved someone?
Ask the black people in African countries...they've been oppressed for years and ask the whites the same and they'll tell you 'we saved those poor black people from extinction, taught them to survive'...My country was always one of the biggest oppressors in Zaire, the Congo...Believe me, we were taught we did good over there when I was in school, not how we were taking all the richess out of that country, leaving the natives to suffer with deseases they'd never had till the white man came and poverty and addictions...
What makes you think your country was so different? but enough of that, this is no p...contest.
