I'm interested in St. Benedict's Episcopal Day School too. My sister is thinking about sending my niece there when we move next year. She would be in the preschool program however.

I would ask to see what their wait times are, if they have wait lists. I have heard some of the private schools have a wait list of up to 2 years!

So far, all the schools I've looked in say they have slots. Some are vague about the actual number of slots, though.

Middle school program at The Walker School is excellent...highly recommend it. My daughter is in her second year there. Very nurturing environment at the middle school level.

For grades 3-5, do not overlook Marietta Center for Advanced Academics. It is a magnet school for the city of Marietta, and ranked in the top 10 elementary schools in all of Ga. Have a 4th grader there. Can't say enough good things about the quality of the education. If you have a gifted child, or a child who needs more of a challenge, this is a great place. Out of district can pay a small tuition ($3300 for the 2010-11 school year) to attend.

Thanks for the suggestions. Right now, the Walker School is out of my budget, but I may revisit as my daughter approaches high school. I have noticed that private school options diminish after the 8th grade and I've heard nothing but good things about that school. I'll look into the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics a few years from now.

Does anyone know anything about the Covenant School in Smyrna? I'm looking into that one right now.

Covenant in Smyrna is a stronger school than FAith Lutheran just from reviewing schools. Faith has small class sizes but lacks a lot of additionals that are necessary for a child's overall growth and fitting into the broader society.

st benedicts have a year and half wait list - i went in a month ago.

I went and toured Christian covenant with my wife. it was great - very small class sizes and all the children were well behaved (i have a 3 1/2 yr old and a 4 month old). If we stay in smyrna we will be sending our kids there

Most of the schools are very good in West Cobb unless you live south of Dallas Hwy in the older part of Powder Springs. There are also some shady areas in Acworth because of the trailer parks and low end apartments. Other than that we have some of the finest schools in the state. Where in West Cobb do you live that has a bad elementary school. Is it in the areas I mentioned?
