Police ticketing ?slow-poke drivers? in Atlanta - Atlanta Business Chronicle

A nearly year-old Georgia law that aims to curb road rage has police officers in and around Atlanta handing out a lot of tickets to slow-moving drivers. The “Slow-Poke Law,” which went into effect in July 2014 allows police officers to ticket drivers of cars traveling in the fast lane who are slowing the progress of faster-moving cars, WSBTV reported early Monday.

In just over nine months, the Georgia State Patrol has written 269 "Slow Poke Law" violations, mostly in the metro area, the station reports. State troopers told WSBTV's Steve Gehlbach that most drivers stopped are not aware of the law. <----- (Freaking idiots...there are signs everywhere that state this"

Wonder how slow you have to be going? Can they give you a ticket if you are driving the speed limit?

I did and I still don't see the answer.

Say you are driving 70 mph. Can you get a ticket for being a slowpoke?

"The law says drivers must move to the right lane (if possible), if a faster-moving car approaches from behind, even if the approaching car is speeding."

Written this way, it's a bad law. And if someone is impeding a speeder, why isn't the speeder the one getting the ticket?

Doesn't matter, let them pass. I hate when folks hold up the fast lane.

Because we have a bunch of crazy people in the legislature.

The concept of ticketing someone who is breaking an existing law by speeding has apparently not occurred to anyone; instead, we went to the trouble of creating a new law to punish ppl driving slower than the speeders.

Brilliant.

I guess none of them have ever had a car going more than 100 miles per hour appear from out of nowhere behind them. It is very scary - my Dad told me to never try to get over, stay where I ambc ppl driving that fast on open road have already decided how they are going to navigate around you and if you get over, they are likely to hit you.

It's sad that Georgia won't just enforce the speeding laws. Surely, that would bring more in the way of dollars, if that is what they are going for.
