I totally with Mike/corndog on this one. Wow, I had no idea a student would pay that much to support a handful of people's pet project. I'm not alumni, but I know quite a bit that are frustrated that they even added a football team.

I know a lot of people can't relate to this, but I don't care about football. But I feel like it has been forced down my throat my entire life. Apparently I HAVE to love it, because I am a guy in the south. If I was in the market for a school and I knew they were forcing me to pay this much for something so worthless, I would be strongly considering another school. That is terrible that they are forcing this program on students. GSU was supposed to be a very practical choice in higher education.

I am pretty sure that the student body (or SGA) voted in favor of the fee increase in order to establish a football program. So like it or not, the athletic fees were not unilaterally increased by the school.

Correct.

Source: I was on that very committee in 2007.

That's good to know. I like to support GSU, but $600 seems high and unnecessary.

You could always get into the fantasy/geek/comic scene. Many of them really don't have the time or interest for sports.

When 70% of your athletic budget comes from student fees.. yes, that's pretty bad. And even if they did vote for it, the students that did are long gone lol. Doesn't mean those there now like it. It seems evident that they don't really care much about it due to how few of them actually go to games.

Then the students should get off of their asses and get the program shut down.
