The numbers of new housing permits are up for Columbia County, but down for ARC.
Quote:
After a slow spring, new building permits for single-family homes surged 9 percent in Columbia County for an annual total of 1,185 units built, which is 100 more than the 1,085 houses constructed in 2013.
But its not all bad for ARC....
Quote:
Appel said Richmond County will remain competitive because the average price for new single-family homes has increased by $21,000, to $219,000, in Columbia County; while it has only gone up $10,000 in Richmond County, to $181,000.
Plus, overall housing construction permits in Augusta, including those issued for commercial properties, utility projects and demolitions, decreased 1 percent last year compared to 2013; going from 9,380 permits to 9,279 permits.
Records show the city saw a $2,731 surplus in revenue, as fees collected from home building permits continued to hover above $1.3 million.
“Richmond County could become more attractive, from a pricing standpoint, especially as builders look for availability in Augusta to focus more on people who want to be closer to work and do not necessarily have a preference on schools,” he said.
