Hills Cafe on South Congress looks like the closest one to me, so I'm going to give it a try next Tuesday when it is their special of the day. Anyone else want to try another place and report back here with a review?

STILL looking for a good Tex-Mex chicken SOUP(not tortilla)! Got us a list for THAT?
I love my Mom's Chicken and Dumplings, no pressure cooker involved but that is probably a good way to make them. Mom made her's with lumpy-bumpy dumplings, I guess that is the spoon method, dropping spoonfuls of dough in a pan of boiling broth. It provides a variety of shapes, sizes and textures.

I think the place I used to go to in Buda used "cut" dumplings, cut like really thin, wide noodles from dough that had been rolled. It wasn't as good as Momma's, but it was mighty fine anyway. I understand another way of making them is "pinching" a lump off of a roll of dough, sounds good also.

Maybe you should start a separate thread about Tex-Mex Soup.

Yeah, sorry, I mistyped. The one is Round Rock doesn't always have the best but San Marcos is really good.

Count me in! I would LOVE to! BTW, I think that Dot's Place here in Pflugerville serves them. I've been meaning to try them out, but they keep some odd hours. Heard they're outstanding, though. I'll try to get around to that this week.

Unless someone re-opened Dot's, there won't be ANY chicken and dumplings. Actually, I thought SOMEbody WOULD try to make a go of the business after Dot retired. Only made it there once, myself. VERY disappointed in the iced tea..veggies were pretty good.

BTW, my Mom's dumplings were rolled out and cut into various geometric shapes. Mom was a science teacher as well as a therapeutic dietitian...not sure what those dumpling shapes represented.

Dot was most emphatic that no one take over her place and call it "Dot's Place" once she closed it. Something about not trusting her reputation to anyone else's hands, which I can understand.

I'll have to check next time I'm there. I wonder if this, too, is a special of the week. I've been there in the not so distant past with people who ordered it.

A Trip to Bountiful - Bountiful Bakery, Austin, Texas has chicken and dumplings as a Blue Plate Special. I haven't tried them but may have to if I'm ever that direction (Westlake) at lunch time.

You were right, thanks, I found Chicken and Dumplings on page 8 of their pdf menus, even though it is not shown on the web page menus.
