Without a change of direction in the rudder not at all good. Obviously there are those that will gain handsomely but most will likely witness increasing declines in living standards. That of course stretches beyond the economy to working life and conditions, to services and care. Why does Australia continue to turbo charge population growth? Obviously it impacts across the board on every aspect of life. What is this obsession with making Sydney and Melbourne mega cities? Who benefits? I see more inequality. Likely substantial increases in those with the means to find better prospects in America or elsewhere rather than remain in Australia. An ever increasing service nation, producing nothing of note but serving others needs.
A country increasingly dependant on outsiders for economic salvation.
Will we get a government that actually governs and not purely manages an economy? Are we to become ever more individualistic, materialistic and self focused with nothing deeper or wider considerations than self aggrandisement? We already work some of the longest hours in the world. We have some diabolical people in positions way above their capability. Some shockingly poor managers from experience. How many actually care enough to provoke change is of course another issue. Self interest usually wins out the day though. When more clarity among more people strikes a chord perhaps, at some future date, well it may be too late to do much.

A shame Aboriginality is wheeled out to sell and create a sort of sensation of exotic sensuality. Most will be aware the reality is too often rather different. Gender relations somewhat difficult as well. Nice song though even if used as a sale jingle for Qantas.

Of course you are correct. Wrong song on my part. I like both songs for their sentimentality. Prefer I am Australian for content, (even sounds great in Mandarin)but remain of the same opinion with regards to the clip accompanying song given on here.

As for the posed question, it can be assumed Melbourne will gain in importance and scale by turbo charging the population to likely challenge or at least close in on Sydney in the future. Ever more of the population look in percentage terms to be located in one of these two cities. Hence when these two become mega cities, their importance will surely grow, both within the nation and region and further at large.
I doubt if this will add much in living standards. Increased vibrancy perhaps, but at what cost?

To me Melbourne has a similar layout to Los Angeles.

Because of the grids? We definitely have a grid structure to our main roads, but we aren't multinodal like LA. LA has a hell of a lot more sprawl as well.
