I used to flip the bird whenever a tailgater stares at me when passing.. nowadays, I just pick my nose as they look while passing. Good comic relief and less likelihood of ensuing road rage.
If the person wasn't hogging the left lane then the "generation" would not be possible at all would it? I disagree with the weird tailgating completely though.

Lemme understand this -- so you're sitting on the passing lane, and you shouldn't be; and you are not allowing others from passing, so you are really a stupid and discourtious jerk, so you are getting upset why I am upset at you?!! The only time you should be upset is if I am on your ass, while you are on the cruising or slow lane.

Talk about putting words in my mouth. No, I'm not sitting on the passing lane; I don't prevent others from passing; I don't care if people pass me. I do it just as I was taught ages ago: signal left, move into the left lane when safe, pass the car I wanted to pass, signal right, and move back over when it's safe. I follow those steps on any road, not just the freeway. So save your griping about left lane hogs for someone else. I share those same gripes; but I'm not stupid enough to get right up on the guy's bumper because of it.
The point I am making is that the only person responsible for a driver's behavior is that driver himself. You are responsible for your own actions. So what if he's an ******* and blocking the passing lane? Who is the one choosing to tailgate? Being an ******* in return only makes a bad situation worse.
There is never, was never, and never will be a good excuse for tailgating; it is dangerous 100% of the time. It takes about one second for you to react to the brake lights ahead of you; at 75 miles per hour, you've already gone 110 feet before you've even touched your brakes. If the guy in front of you stops suddenly for any reason, you'll be well into his back seat before your foot even touches the brake pedal. No, you're not quick enough, no matter what you may think; no human being has reflexes that fast.
Hogging the left lane is just (very) annoying, but the potential consequences of tailgating are far worse than the five or ten extra minutes the slowpoke adds to the commute.
There are times where I have been tailgated while I'm passing someone. I guess they think I should be doing 90 instead of 80 while passing (even though speed limit is 70).

This. And the reason these threads always go on for pages and pages is because there are a lot of people who simply can't or, more likely, don't want to, grasp the idea that they are responsible for their own actions and they don't get the out of claiming that someone else MADE them act like an *******.

No, the primary reason these threads go on and on is because there is only one person who doesn't get it and insists on arguing incessantly about it with everyone else -- and not only that, but insists on introducing the same argument into the discussion whether it was part of the original topic or not.
I just pass them on the right and be on my way. If the driver in front hasn't made a effort while you're closing in, chances are they are not going to move anytime soon so why should I wait to see what they are going to do?
I avoid the scenario of passing another vehicle while someone wants you to move faster by yielding to any vehicles in the left lane before proceeding to pass. If I see any vehicle approaching from the other lane at a faster speed, I'm not going to get in front of them. I had vehicles get in front of me and then refuse to accelerate. If people would let them by before switching lanes, they won't find themselves in those situation.

Wanna take any guesses who that person is?
That would be you, I take it? Based on the available evidence in all the threads that we've both been in, that would be the inescapable conclusion.
