The XTS is the wife's car.
CT4-V with the 2.7L turbo 4 is under consideration for my next car.
I'm going to test drive one soon after they arrive.

The current very powerful V cars were never contenders because they lack AWD.
That's a complete non-starter here in the snow belt. I already have one garage queen, don't need another.

No he wasn’t getting ripped off. He just didn’t expect a waterpump replacement to be so expensive.

Ive owned 40+ cars, bought 2 waterpumps in my life. Not something I'd fret about

Maybe you will when the bill comes close to 2,000 bucks. For a water pump. Oh yeah it’s got a plastic impeller

They do not have more power than the V6's. Mine has 304 hp with no premium fuel requirement.
My 4 cylinder has 227hp on 87 octane, 250 on 93, and 310# of torque at 2000rpm with either. The most powerful v6 Ive owned had 332hp/270tq, on 91 or higher octane. The 4 cylinder is in a CUV, the v6 in a coupe, the SUV averages about 26mpg over its life, the coupe notably less, but was driven harder, too. All in all, turbo 4 is the way to go.

I'm calling BS on that. Post a copy of the repair order where we can see it.

There must have been some other work done or you don't know the whole story. A water pump on any EcoBoost motor doesn't cost that much to replace.

I just checked on a 2.0L EcoBoost in a Fusion and it should be around $700 parts & labor.

I thought he was referring to the GM 2.7T, which uses a variable speed electric water pump.

Post #238 in this thread and he's referring to a water pump replacement in a Ford Flex. That's what I was responding to.

3.5L Water pump is internal and chain driven. You need to take a good chunk of the engine apart to get at it and remove the timing chains. Some cars require the engine dropped.

Smack dab in the middle (front timing cover removed)

I've seen $1500 thrown around as an average number for the repair. Quite common failure, but usually over 100K miles.

Want another shocker? Look into how much it costs to replace a new Ford EPAS steering rack.
