Have been driving for 28 years and have been involved in two "crashes" (one recently) which involved major damage and repair to the vehicles or totaled vehicles, insurance company involvement, police reports, etc. No one was injured during either crash.
Beyond that, there's been more instances of damage to my car - mostly a young me backing into stuff, scraping my car against things (for example, a cement pillar in my dense parking garage), resulting in dents and scratches. But, just the two major crashes.
I've been in 1 car accident and that was back in the late 70's when I got my license. A really old lady ran a stop sign and scratched the side of my car as well as taking out my mirror. I followed her for over a mile before we got to the light. I told her while at the light and she didn't even realize it. That's how old she was. I might've been in 1 accident but there has been WAY too many close calls. The amount of drivers on the road nowadays is crazy. I drive defensively only because I'm not going to assume everyone is paying attention.
Once while I was in high school. The car infront of me came to a quick stop at a light, I slammed, the car behind me (a Tahoe) rear ended me bending my SUVs rear bumper into the trunk and totaling it, pushing me into the car infront of me. Nobody was injured, my airbags didn't deploy. It took the insurance 4 weeks to decide if my car was totaled.
My wife has been in 2. The first was an incident where an old lady merged into her lane, she honks her horn, the old lady freaks out and slams on her brakes. The car had a huge dent/scrape running from the front tail light all the way to the back tail light. Old lady broke down crying, she should've lost her license.
The second was on a freeway, a large object in the lane caused the car infront of her to slam on their brakes, my wife's brakes locked up and went right into her.
Two major accidents happened under nearly identical circumstances, separated by 30 years. Both were the fault of the other driver, headed the opposite direction who turned left in front of my car at a green light.
Both accidents resulted in my vehicle being totaled, were at about 30- 35 mph city traffic. I walked away without a scratch from the first one, the second, I had a minor bruise from my hands being ripped off the wheel. Even though I had an airbag in the second wreck, it didn't deploy, but I'm glad it didn't because it was made by Takata.
Although I've heard you shouldn't brace yourself on the steering wheel, it's hard not to when you are about to have a head-on collision. I did have the presence of mind to not put my thumbs inside the wheel in the milliseconds before impact. That may have save me from a hand injury.
Only one. Guy hit me from behind. It was very minor, I believe it was my fault cause my blinker wasn't working. I also have hit several deer. Also pretty minor damage.

The first was in 1967, when on my learner's permit with my Mom alongside. Some guy in a 55 Thunderbird ran a red light, and my 1958 Chrysler couldn't stop in time. No injuries, no damage to my bumper, but pushed in his door.
Since then, a total of 3 others in the 50 years I have been driving.
